Southern Fried Family Reunion Will Benefit Safe-Schools

GRITZ Magazine is teaming up with The Handlebar and Palmetto Music to stage a one-day “GRITZFEST” in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday, July 23rd beginning at 7 pm at The Handlebar on Stone Avenue, Greenville. The event is a benefit for the SAFE-SCHOOLS program.

Headlining the event will be BONNIE BRAMLETT, famous for her work with Delaney & Bonnie and Friends in the ‘60s and 70s. Bonnie also worked with Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Joe Cocker, George Harrison, Janis Joplin, Charlie Daniels, Delbert McClinton to name a few. She helped to discover Gram Parsons...Co-Wrote “Superstar” with Leon Russell...Toured with the Allman Bros. Band as the first and only ever “Allman Sister”... Was the only Caucasian “Ikette” in the Ike and Tina Turner Review... Starred in the TV sitcom Roseanne with Roseanne Barr...Acted with Val Kilmer in the movie The Doors... TOMMY CRAIN, famous guitarist of The Charlie Daniels Band, the awesome guitarist who co-wrote “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Tommy will appear with his band Cross Town Allstars... Other very special guests include GEORGE McCORKLE, founding guitarist of The Marshall Tucker Band; DENNY WALLEY, long time side man of both Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart; JO JO BILLINGSLEY, one of Ronnie Van Zant’s “Honkettes” in the original Lynyrd Skynyrd; JIMMY FARRAR, former lead singer of Molly Hatchet, currently with The Southern Rock Allstars; MARK EMERICK, lead guitarist of The Commander Cody Band; DONNIE WINTERS, lead guitarist of the Winters Brothwrs Band; TONY HEATHERLY, former member of The Toy Caldwell Band and most recently The Marshall Tucker Band; the evening will serve as a CD release party by Greenville’s own MICHAEL BUFFALO SMITH (the Editor of GRITZ Magazine) who’s new record Something Heavy will be released in Greenville. Joining Michael will be the band that has backed him on his past two albums, THE CRAWLERS out of Huntsville, Alabama. The Crawlers feature the red-hot guitarist Ray Brand (David Allan Coe) and bassist Owen Brown (James Taylor), Thad Usry and Billy Teichmiller. Also joining in will be DANNY HALL and LARRY PERKINS who appear on the album... More artists will be added. There’s no telling who might show up! There will also be a SILENT AUCTION of rock and roll memorabilia, guitars and other great items.
